The Harmony 885 Advanced Universal Remote puts you in control of your entire audio-video system with just one button. It's home entertainment the way it should be - simple.
Optimized for complicated HDTV and PVR systems, the Harmony 885 helps you tame tough configurations like switching your television between video aspect ratios depending on the program source. The interactive color display lets you quickly choose a 16: 9 ratio for movies and HDTV, or a standard 4: 3 ratio for basic television programming.
2006-09-14Reviewer: DonHad some concerns before this arrived because I've had universal remotes before which haven't quite achieved the objective. Also a friend said this model was difficult to program and he's a gadget wizz kid! My experience is that initial programing was really easy. After use, I wanted to make some adjustments and this was also really easy. The bespoke LCD buttons are fantastic. Even the wife (who initially refused to allow the other remotes to be put away) thinks this is brilliant. Her only complaint was when we allowed the battery to go flat and she had to use "those old remotes which are a real pain". What a convert! Absolutely recommended.

2006-07-25Reviewer: Baij PatelI recently purchased one of these remotes having used a couple of other universal remotes in the past. Most recently I bought the very fancy and expensive Philips RC9800i touch-screen which was great but prone to hanging and some lag when keying commands (sometimes needing to be switched off and on). Perhaps too complex with its' built-in wifi and tv guide. What I really disliked was that it relied too heavily on the touchscreen and stylus and didn't have enough hard buttons eg for pressing forward and rewind when watching a dvd or Tivo (was difficult to stab at the correct button on the touch-screen with a small stylus while looking up at the tv to see when you wanted to stop forwarding!) In the end I relented to the wife's complaints and sold it on Ebay and got this Harmony 885 remote instead and have never looked back! Admittedly it took the best part of a day to set it up via the website, the main problem was it wasn't so easy to set up delays in the system eg switch on plasma, wait 10 seconds before sending next command to turn on Tivo etc, all commands are sent at the same time not one after another. The Philips did allow a sequence of commands to be sent with pauses in between. Anyway, got it working by sometimes resending the same command eg turn on tv, set tv input channel, turn on Tivo, set tv channel input channel again etc. Long-winded but it works. The main thing is this remote has hard-buttons so it's much easier to forward and rewind but the placing of the buttons is rather unfriendly (would have made sense to put the forward/rewind/play functions on the rocker switch in the middle of the remote). Still, it works so well I'm buying another one for the bedroom a/v setup! Bear in mind that if you have a complicated a/v setup like me (amp, dvd, plasma, xbox, ps2, tivo) it might take longer to program that you expect but it is worthwhile in the end. All in all, I'd give it 9 out of 10.

2006-05-17Reviewer: STEPHEN PAGE"£120 for a remote?, you have to be be *hi**i*g me!" Thats what I first thought when this item was recommended by a friend. I went back to my nest of remotes selected the AV AMP, the TV, the SKY and the DVD ones then turned on all my stuff and sat back to watch tv. The doorbell rang, so politely I went back to my family of controls selected as above and powered it all down. Turned out it was a guy who wanted someone in the NEXT road, so I went back to my remotes.........yep you guessed the rest. The following day I ordered one of these puppies from Komplett and my life has been remote-free ever since! Easy to set up, easier to use and at my leisure I can edit and adjust whatever functions I need at will.
Now if only it could make the tea............
10 out of 10 Logitech.

2006-01-19Reviewer: Kevinw10000I was a little dubious about paying out £180 for a universal remote but when Komplett reduced the price to £125 and a friend reccomended it I took the plunge. Setup is via the Logitech website and guides you easily through choosing your equipment (TV's, DVD's, Surround sound systems, they are all there..) and then the clever bit, setting up activities. Activities are simply macros spanning multiple devices. For instance if I want to watch Sky I have to; turn on Sky, turn on the TV, turn on the Surround system and set all the items to the right inputs. This can be done from the remote with the press of a soft button called Watch SkyPlus :-) Programming on the website is simple and you are walked through the process. Activities can then be edited easily as well.
I can highly reccomend this remote. As a sidenote I needed to contact customer support and had a reply within 12 hours. There is also a freephone number with real people around till 2am UK time (they are based in Canada :-) There are plenty of independant forums to give you help on the remote and the general feel seems to be a good remote and good customer services.
One problem with Sky Plus was when navigating the channel guide it was skipping 2 channels at a time. Simply decreasing repeats from 3 to 2 cured it. Simply found the answer on the forums.
There is a good review on www.coolest-gadgets.com if you take a look.

2006-01-04Reviewer: bluebusI was worried about whether this would work since all my kit is operated via an AV Amp. After putting the kit into the logitech website it all just worked. The volume controls operate on the correct device, I tweaked it slightly to change to the DVD input channel on my TV which was easy. It was amost anticlimactic, just fewer remotes and a lot easier to operate.
